A couture line for Gucci is just what the label needs, but can Giannini pull this off? Can she compete with couture genius, Galliano? I have faith in Giannini to create fabulous couture looks, but there’s just one issue. Sources state that you can’t just become a couturier, you have to be certified by the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, and membership isn’t granted lightly. Hopefully this will not stop Giannini from pursuing her vision as a couturier. WWD concludes that even though Gucci will not be showing the collection on the Paris runway, the label will sell it on a by-appointment basis and use the couture label to service top celebrities. This will definitely be a new source of fashion for the red carpet!
