Vera Wang On Ice

The Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 has been just absolutely amazing so far. The athleticism, the television programing, the...fashion? Yes, New York Fashion Week wasn't the only event receiving attention from the fashion editors and photographers this past week. One major American designer, Vera Wang, tackled what would normally by a high-end fashion designer's worse nightmare, by designing men's figure skating costumes for the games. Ms. Wang was tapped to design five different costumes for the dashing American Figure Skater, Evan Lysacek, to wear in style during this year's games. It is not extremely shocking to learn that Wang will design for the ice, since she herself was a competitive skater years ago. She has also designed costumes for a number of Olympic skaters, Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan.

Evan Lysacek, 24, snatched up the gold last night in the Men's Free Skate competition, and wow did he look fabulous doing it! His flashiest costume was a charcoal grey feathered ensemble . "You have to...look good, be costumed and stay to the music," Wang told WWD. "It's kind of your worst nightmare as a designer." Well, she certainly pulled it off, as she always does. Lysacek's costume lived up to his extraordinary choreography, which he executed flawlessly, taking home another gold for the U.S.A.! This was a win for American figure skating, as well as a big win for ice couture!
