In a slideshow compiled for The New York Times' "Fashion and Style" section, Cathy Horyn and Eric Wilson came up with 10 trends from 2010 that they do not care to see again in the new year.
Some of these made sense. For example, the "cupcake breast" look sported by Charlize Theron was both strange and unflattering. Another trend, sheer clothing, was given the boot. Though they looked interesting on the runway, see-through pieces were destined for commercial failure.
One trend criticized was, though strange, highly adorable: the denim diaper. Though Horyn and Wilson vetoed the look, it made the unsightly diaper just a little more fashionable.
However, Horyn and Wilson snubbed a couple of trends that were very popular, both commercially and critically. One was the 50s-themed ad campaigns popularized by Louis Vuitton, which garnered praise for using models with actual curves. Though the slideshow dubbed these campaigns "uptight," the use of curves made the ads more accessible to women of different shapes.
The other popular trend not missed by the duo was the rock-n-roll look: studs and skulls adorning everything from purses to shirts to jackets. The look, which has been going strong for several seasons, is popular with members of several different style sets.
Readers, what do you think? Which of these trends should be left behind in fashion history?
